A bilingual helpdesk in Arabic and English: how to set it up
Serving customers in Arabic and English takes more than translated macros. Routing by language, right-to-left support, tone, working weeks and quality checks each need a decision. A practical set-up guide.

A bilingual Arabic and English helpdesk works when every customer reaches someone fluent in their language, the help content exists in both, and quality is checked in both. The tools matter less than the decisions behind them: routing, tone, hours and who reviews what.
Decisions to make first
- Routing: by the customer’s language setting, by channel, or by detecting the language of the message.
- Written Arabic: Modern Standard Arabic for help articles and email, with agents who can follow dialect in chat and on social.
- Tone: how formal each language should be, written down with examples.
- Working weeks: weekends differ by market (Friday and Saturday in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, Saturday and Sunday in the UAE and Europe), so plan cover per market.
- Escalation: which issues go to which team, in which language.
Set up the tools
- 01Check that the helpdesk handles right-to-left text in tickets, macros and the help centre.
- 02Create language groups or queues, and route new conversations to them.
- 03Write macros and help articles in both languages; don’t rely on machine translation alone for customer-facing text.
- 04Tag every conversation with its language, so reports split by language.
- 05Set up chatbots in both languages for routine questions, with a clear route to a person.
Measure both languages separately
- CSAT and first response time per language.
- Reopen rate per language, a sign of answers that did not land.
- Volume by language and by hour, to plan cover.
- A regular quality review of a sample of conversations in each language.
