How to choose a marketing company in Saudi Arabia: a checklist for startups and SMEs

Most Saudi startups compare marketing companies on portfolios and price. The questions that predict results are different: what the work is measured on, who owns the accounts and data, how Arabic and English are handled, and how marketing connects to sales.

In Saudi Arabia, “شركة تسويق” (marketing company) is the most searched way to look for marketing help, and searches for “وكالة تسويق” (marketing agency) are rising. The choice is wide and the portfolios look alike. Six questions separate a partner that brings customers from one that brings activity.

1. What will the work be measured on?

Ask for the numbers the work will be judged by, agreed before anything starts. Reach, impressions and followers are easy to grow and hard to bank. For a startup or SME the useful ones are qualified leads, cost per qualified lead and the pipeline marketing creates.

2. Who owns the accounts, the data and the content?

Ad accounts, analytics, the website and the CRM should be in your company’s name, with the partner given access. If the relationship ends, the history, the audiences and the content stay with you.

3. How do they handle Arabic and English?

Saudi buyers search in both languages, and the Arabic phrases they use are not always translations of the English ones. Ask how keywords are researched in each language, who writes the Arabic, and whether pages are written for Saudi readers rather than translated.

4. How does marketing connect to sales?

A lead that lands in an inbox or a WhatsApp chat and is never followed up is a lost lead. Ask where every lead goes, how fast it is followed up and how you will see which campaigns produced deals. If you have no CRM yet, setting one up belongs in the plan.

5. What will they do with AI?

AI is now part of how people research suppliers: the Communications, Space and Technology Commission’s Saudi Internet Report found that 45% of internet users use AI tools. Ask how the partner will make sure assistants such as ChatGPT describe your company correctly, and where AI will save your team time rather than only produce more content.

6. What happens in the first 30 days?

A serious partner can tell you what will be live after the first month: tracking, the first campaigns, the pages, the CRM. If the first month is only “strategy”, ask what you will be able to measure at the end of it.

A short checklist

  • KPIs agreed in writing before work starts
  • Accounts, data and content in your company’s name
  • Arabic and English researched and written separately
  • Every lead captured in a CRM and followed up
  • A plan for AI search and for AI in the team
  • Something live and measurable within 30 days
