07How it’s installed

How the numbers are worked out

The calculator follows the 2026 payroll steps: the insurable wage from the gross pay, employee and employer social insurance on it, salary tax on the yearly pay after social insurance and the exemption (rounded down to EGP 10), the martyrs’ fund, then net pay and the employer’s cost. A net salary is turned into gross by working the payslip backwards. It checks against the published 2026 example: EGP 20,000 gross gives EGP 1,837 social insurance, EGP 2,445 tax and EGP 15,708 net.

  2. Social insurance
  3. Taxable pay
  4. Salary tax

08FAQ

Egypt salary and employer cost calculator: what founders ask first.

  • Take gross pay, deduct 11% employee social insurance on the insurable wage (at most EGP 1,837 a month), deduct salary tax on the yearly pay after social insurance and the EGP 20,000 exemption, and deduct 0.05% for the martyrs’ fund. EGP 20,000 gross pays EGP 15,708 net.

  • EGP 38,618 a month. EGP 1,837 social insurance (the cap), EGP 9,520 salary tax and EGP 25 for the martyrs’ fund come off, and the employer pays EGP 53,131 in all. The table above shows other salaries.

  • The insurable wage is capped at EGP 16,700 a month, so the employee pays at most EGP 1,837 and the employer at most EGP 3,131.25 a month.

  • Gross pay plus the employer’s 18.75% social insurance on the insurable wage, plus anything you add such as medical insurance or equipment. For example, a take-home pay of EGP 39,000 a month costs the employer about EGP 53,600.

  • EGP 7,000 a month in the private sector, in force since 1 March 2025. A decree now requires the National Wages Council to review it at least once a year, so check for a newer decision.

  • No. It is a planning estimate using the published 2026 rules. Payroll in Egypt should be checked by an Egyptian accountant, and rules change, usually from January.

  • The employer withholds it from pay every month and files quarterly statements in January, April, July and October. The tax year runs from 1 January to 31 December.

  • Yes. Bonuses are taxed as employment income with the salary, in the same bands from 0% to 27.5%. Pensions, end-of-service gratuities and specific allowances are exempt.
